Nowadays, tile adhesive is widely used in home decoration and is well received and loved by homeowners. So what is the difference between tile adhesive and traditional cement mortar? Let's take a look together~
Traditional cement mortar has a single performance.
Cement mortar has limited bonding strength.
For slightly larger tiles or tiles with low water absorption, support is needed when installing on the wall; otherwise, there will be issues like tile falling or sliding, which are caused by insufficient bonding strength of the cement mortar.
Needs to be mixed on-site, quality is not guaranteed.
On-site mixed cement mortar has different cement grades, shelf life, and sand mud content, all of which directly affect the tiling effect, making quality difficult to guarantee.
There is a common phenomenon of hollow sounds.
①When tiling with cement mortar, hollow sounds are a common phenomenon. Once it comes into contact with water, the cement undergoes hydration, which continues to shrink and solidify. The hydration of cement will continue for 20 years, leading to tiles that initially have no hollow sounds developing them after a few years, along with cracking.
②Cement mortar has poor water retention, making it easy for the substrate to draw moisture away, leading to hollow sounds and poor adhesion of tiles.
③Cement mortar relies on mechanical interlocking due to physical properties to adhere tiles. Today's tiles have high density, which increases the difficulty of tiling. As the tiles get larger and denser, it becomes difficult for cement mortar to adhere them firmly and stably.
High dust emission, not environmentally friendly.
In 2010, the General Office of the State Council issued a document to strengthen environmental management at construction sites, prohibiting the use of bagged cement and on-site mixed concrete and mortar. Dust control measures such as barriers and coverings should be taken at construction sites. However, on-site construction with cement mortar generates a lot of dust, is not environmentally friendly, and is not conducive to future development needs.
Advantages of using tile adhesive.
Tile adhesive has powerful performance, and replacing cement mortar with tile adhesive for tiling has become a new trend in current decoration.
Can effectively improve project quality.
Tile adhesive has strong bonding strength and good flexibility, with high adhesion, which can reduce the possibility of tile delamination and peeling, ensuring project quality and avoiding issues like hollow sounds and cracking after long-term use, thus enhancing the protective function for walls.
Advanced construction technology.
Tile adhesive has good water retention. If sufficient additives are used and the ratio is correct, tiles on uncured tile adhesive will not slide. This means there is no need to insert spacers between tiles, and tiling can be done from top to bottom, significantly improving construction efficiency and quality.
Saves material usage.
A bonding layer of 2-5mm can generate sufficient bonding strength, greatly reducing material usage.
Stable product quality.
Factory pre-mixed, ensuring stable quality. On-site mixing only requires adding water, making it simple and convenient, with quality easy to control.
Beneficial for environmental protection.
Can reduce waste, contains no harmful additives, and meets green environmental protection requirements.
