In tile laying, it is essential to fill the gaps between the tiles. So how do you fill the gaps in tiles?
Steps for filling tile gaps
01 Surface Treatment
The gap filling process should be carried out 24 hours after the tiles are laid. Before using the tile grout, clean the tile gaps thoroughly to remove all dust, grease, and other contaminants, and also remove any loose tile adhesive between the gaps.
02Mixing
Use a low-speed electric drill with a suitable mixing blade for mechanical mixing. Add clean water to the tile grout in a 4:1 ratio to make a paste. After letting it sit for 10 minutes, mix it again before use.
03 Construction
Use a rubber grout knife or a suitable scraper to fill the mixed tile grout into the tile gaps, filling the gaps in a diagonal direction or in a circular motion.
Try to avoid leaving too much tile grout on the tile surface, and regularly clean the tile surface with a damp sponge or cloth before the material sets. Remove any defects as soon as they are discovered and make adjustments as early as possible.
04Cleaning
Use a slightly damp sponge to clean the tiles, and use a clean damp cloth to wipe the surface, doing this before the grout film dries. Tools should be rinsed immediately with clean water after use.
After the grout has initially set, wipe off any powdery grout residue with a dry cloth or perform a final wash with water.

The reason is that the tile adhesive has not dried, and alkaline substances have leached out. It is recommended to carry out the work after the tile adhesive has initially set!

Is the tile grout cracking?
① Too much water added.
It needs to be mixed according to the product's water-cement ratio requirements.
② The tile adhesive has not dried.
It needs to be done after the tile adhesive has initially set.
③ Insufficient compaction.
Use a scraper at about a 45° angle to repeatedly cross-press and compact.
④ The grout has exceeded its open time.
It needs to be done within the open time of the grout.
⑤ Impurities, dust, grease, and other substances disrupt the drying process of the grout.
The gaps in the tile adhesive and the tile surface must be cleaned before proceeding.
Precautions
First, for cement tile laying, you can start filling the gaps 7 days after laying the tiles. For tile adhesive, you should wait at least one day before using the grout, and be careful that the construction temperature does not drop below zero.
Second, before filling the gaps, the surface of the floor tiles and the connecting seams must be cleaned. First, wipe the tile surface with a damp cloth, just enough to moisten it, without leaving standing water. This is to prevent the small pores on the tile surface from absorbing pigment and cement, ensuring proper coloring.
Third, to control color and prevent the grout from powdering, the tile surface should be wiped clean within 1 to 2 hours after filling the gaps.
Fourth, within 72 hours after the gap filling is completed, care should be taken to prevent the grout from drying, especially for surfaces exposed to sunlight outdoors. We can cover the construction surface with natural kraft paper to prevent other construction work from dirtying the newly filled seams, and be especially careful not to use newspaper.
